Couples Therapy

Many couples experience periods of turmoil and distress. There may be parenting conflicts, life transitions (like having a baby, relocating, getting a new job, or integrating families), financial or legal issues, poor communication, infidelity, grief and loss, sexual or intimacy problems, lack of trust, or mismatched expectations in the relationship. These challenge affect both partners’ well-being, mental health, and their children's well-being.

Couple therapy is a process in which the therapist meets with the members of a couple jointly and sometimes separately to help partners address and make changes in the relationship in the areas they have identified as challenging. All couples therapy goals are made collaboratively with with both partners together. The goal is not necessarily to help partners stay together or separate, but for partners make changes in the relationship in the areas they have identified as challenging. The therapist’s role is to help the members of the couple to develop a mutual understanding of each partner’s experiences and help them make changes consistent with their values and wishes.

Couples therapy can be a healing and transformative experience that improves communication, resolves conflicts, reduces stress, deepens your emotional connection, and improves well-being. Couples therapy and asking and answering get to know your partner questions can be helpful at any point in the relationship.
